Chapter 25

“What I’m saying is, Elora is a crappy cop, a useless woman—”

“Hey!” Useless. No one should be called useless. Thad knew all too well what it was like to be considered useless, and Elora didn’t deserve it.

“There has to be something about her.” Ric turned growlier and growlier. “She has to have some special skill or she wouldn’t have gotten this far in her career. It can’t all be because she was born with tits, but what is it, Thad? What is she good at?”

Thad bit his tongue. He didn’t know. Hadn’t he too questioned how Elora had ended up in this department? “She’s good at finding objects, not people.”

“So she should’ve worked with theft, not murder and missing people.”

True, but they didn’t know Elora’s story. She never talked about her life, not even with Thad who was her partner. “I trust Elora.”

“I didn’t say we couldn’t trust her. I only think she’s wasted here.”

Thad was inclined to agree, but…“We don’t know what drove her to get here.”
