Chapter 26

Being a detective was so much more action-filled in the movies.

“Did she mention someone scaring her? Perhaps someone coming to her workplace acting weird?” Thaddeus’ eyes swept over the boyfriend’s face. Sandy didn’t remember whose boyfriend he was, he’d only skimmed through the list of names while Thaddeus had driven.

He shouldn’t be driving when he could only use one hand, he could get hurt. Sandy had argued with him in the parking lot, but since Thaddeus refused to make him solid enough so he could drive, they didn’t have many options.

“No.” The boyfriend shook his head. “Why are you here? I’ve already answered these questions.”

“I know, and I’m sorry to bother you again—”

“What has changed?” The boyfriend was glaring now, and Sandy moved closer to Thaddeus.

“We’re double-checking—”

“No. You haven’t been involved before. I’ve talked to all the fuckers working this case, all dumb, brutish guys. Why have they sent you? You’re not like them.”
