Chapter 29

Jaecar kept his calm, not so much as a glimmer of his animal peeking through his eyes as he looked at Thaddeus. “I didn’t say that. I said for this part of the investigation, there is room for you to rest. I heard you mention sick leave, and I’ll put you on it if you don’t follow orders. After the meeting, you’re going home. You’re going to rest, and when you have, you can come back in.”

“We’re running out of time.”

Jaecar showed fangs—long, large canines that put Sandy’s to shame.

Thaddeus huffed. “Fine. But I’ll come back tonight.”

Jaecar gave him a short nod and walked past them into the conference room with a gracefulness Sandy envied. He could be graceful, but not cat graceful.

“Come on.” Sandy reached out to touch Thaddeus’ shoulder but stopped himself right before impact. “Let’s get this over with.”
