“Okay, I might have more questions for you later, but we’re heading out to Grim’s property now.”

Pickering nodded. “I’ll be going away for a long time, won’t I? I’ve never killed anyone, Thaddeus.”

Thad sighed. “But you didn’t prevent people from dying either. You knew there were twelve women in the woods waiting to be sucked dry by Grim, and you did nothing.”

“He would’ve killed me if I had.”

Thad nodded. Grim might have, and maybe it was the wrong way of thinking, but weren’t twelve innocent lives worth more than Pickering’s?

Sandy zigzagged between trees, walking around the property to make sure no surprises were waiting for them. He didn’t trust wizards, and he didn’t want Thaddeus to have to endure anything more.

He’d hoped they would stay at the station while Jaecar, Leo, and Ric went to free the women—Thaddeus was hurt and needed to sleep—but he’d insisted on them coming along.

“Find anything?” Ric appeared by his side.
