Chapter 36

“I already know what he’s going to say. We’ve sort of been drifting apart for a while. Nothing dramatic, but we’re in different places in our lives. He wants to keep partying, keep sleeping around, and I’m not interested in that anymore. And it’s not only because of you, even if he thinks you’re the one to blame. I’m serious about The Chocolaterie. Marie and I have plans for the place that don’t go with late nights and lots of booze.”

I hum in acknowledgment.

“And we’ve already had lots of new orders pouring in after the wedding, more than we could’ve imagined in our wildest dreams. It’s a huge thing for us, for something that started as me and Marie making candy and selling it at street fairs.”

“You’ve accomplished a lot. You should be proud.”
