“So, the boundary candles will stay in place,” Susanna said. “The crowd will know to stay away from them, but they won’t know why. It will be instinctual. If anyone goes to pass them, they’ll just feel like turning back.”

“Didn’t a crowd break through them once in our records?” Phillipa Harrington asked.

“Yes, once,” Susanna said. “We like to think it wouldn’t happen again. They still were not able to take the witch they were trying to burn from the property, but they did get through. If that happens tonight, we’ll act accordingly, and hope that, like that angry mob in our past, anyone passing that line won’t be able to do harm to any of us.”

“What if he shows up?” Manny Hathorne asked.

“As long as he doesn’t cross the boundary candles, we’ll pretty much ignore him,” Raferty explained. “After the ritual, we’ll come in here for cider, and Ian and Seamus will work on things upstairs. If they need us, they’ll call.”

“And if he does cross the boundary candles?” Abigail Goode asked.
