“I have to go,” he mumbled. “I have to go say something. That wasn’t…you know I wouldn’t…”

Amaya rose as he did. “Wait, you can eatfirst! He’s not going anywhere.”

With numb fingers, Bryson pulled some cash out of his wallet. He dropped it on the table. At this point, he didn’t know what the right thing to do was. He only knew that he had to make this right. Now. Not later. “I’ve got to get a cab.”

“God damn it, Bry.” Amaya angrily slapped the table, but stood. “I’ll drive you. Of course I’ll drive you. But we are damn well getting that food to go. I’m starving.”
