Pain and sorrow took them.
“Dad,” they whispered.
“I thought I’d find you here,” the man in the boiler suit announced, his face obscured by shadow, unwilling to step forward.
A chill ran down their spine as they struggled to pierce the gloom with their gaze.
“Dad,” they murmured, “I tried to find you, I came here to find you. I-I’m sorry I wasn’t here when you died.”
The figure shook his head.
“You shouldn’t say that,” he answered. “Don’t cheapen yourself by thinking this is all you are. You’re still young, you’re stupidly young. The world is so much bigger than this one lake, this one shrine, this one island.”
“I’ll find out what happened!” Eirian said, suddenly flushed with anger. “I’ll make sure that the Firmament Foundation pays for trying to keep it a secret.”
“You don’t mean that,” the ghost answered.
Angrily, Eirian shook their head.
“I do mean it. I came all this way for you, I—”
