How could they stand each other, Delilah wondered, this father and daughter who seemed to have so little time for one another? She shook her head. It was not worth her considering. Instead, she simply focused on the board before her, on the readings that illuminated the deck, and waited for President Labyrinth’s lift to reach the command centre of the distant FF-00.

She closed her eyes, trying to keep her head clear. It wasn’t easy remembering things when inside the meow; it wasn’t easy reminding yourself of those little details of who you once had been. Instead, there were the demands of the new flesh, the taut muscles and thick skin, the dulled senses and heavy weight.

Luna had always thought of the meows as little more than tools, instruments no different from a microscope, a computer, and yet now, having spent so long throughout the last week inhabiting their framework, she felt a different kind of connection, something almost close to affection.
