Chapter 69

Their breath caught as they watched the beauty of that stubborn animal as he soared upwards—and then abruptly, a tentacle shot forth from the growing mass of the creature, puncturing the magcat below his chin, driving through him completely, and tossing him aside as it retracted.

A cry escaped their lips, sudden fear washing over them, as they watched the magcat smash into the floor, his stomach open, blood pouring from his mouth, his legs twitching in pain, eyes wide with fear and a terrible, terrible lack of understanding.

“Magcat!” Eirian screamed in horror, running forward, ignorant of the titan above them, dropping to their knees before the twisting limbs of the creature, their hands reaching out to touch the dying beast.

Within the wound, the animal’s guts could be seen, blood pooling beneath him, breath short and sharp as it escaped his tiny mouth.

“Magcat,” Eirian sobbed, reaching out to him.

“Eirian!” Poppy screamed. “Eirian, look out!”
