“I’ll think about it. I’ll talk to you later.” Steve hung up, angry, but he couldn’t tell what he was angry with—himself, Jase, or life in general.

By Monday when Steve hadn’t heard from Jase and wasn’t about to call him, Steve figured their little blip of romance had blown itself up. Wasn’t the first time it had happened to him, probably wouldn’t be the last. In fact, Eric sadly agreed, but added that Steve had now been christened in love, college style.
Jase had called the tutoring center and cancelled his appointment for the day, but not his appointment for the rest of semester. So Steve expected him to show up later in the week. He couldn’t turn off Eric’s razzing, however.
“So where’s the stud?” Eric asked at Jase’s appointment time.
Steve shrugged. “Cancelled. Guess you were right. Baptism by fire.”
