Chapter 15

“Crazy, huh?” Jase asked.

“Yeah. Wish I could give you a hug.”

Jase turned and looked at the students who had opened books in front of them, but were surreptitiously glancing at him.

“In a minute,” Jase muttered. “We want everybody to be ready for the big show first. Right? You wanna do it?”

Steve grinned at him. They’d talked about this in bed the previous night. Jase had decided it was time to declare himself in front of a bunch of people, and Steve thought the kids who usually used the library would be the right group.

He hadn’t counted on the fact that a lot of kids who barely knew where the library was located would be following Jase there. He’d counted on the more accepting library crowd to be witnesses to Jase’s performance. They hadn’t agreed about which day Jase would make his move, but he looked determined just then.

Suddenly, Jase stood and pushed aside the tutoring table.

He walked up to Steve and murmured, “You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
