Chapter 24

“H-hey, Ben. Uh, nice evening. G-glad to see you again.”

Benjamin smirked, obviously catching on that Eric was frightened. Then Eric heard the sound of the bell tinkling. He gasped under his breath in sheer relief when the customers suddenly looked away from him and focused on the food and drinks in front of them instead.

“Have a seat anywhere. I’ll be right with you.”

“Okay.”

It took only a moment before Benjamin approached Eric’s table and sat on the chair across from him. “So, you’re back.”

Eric nodded. “Yeah.”

“Not scared?”

“No,” Eric replied immediately, and he was embarrassed when Benjamin raised both eyebrows, certainly calling him out on his lie. “Okay. Maybe a little.”

Benjamin snorted. “A little?”

Eric huffed. “More than a little. Satisfied?”

Benjamin chortled. “Very.”

“Jerk.”

“Simply pointing out the truth.”

“Whatever.”

Benjamin snickered before he cocked his head at the container that Eric was grasping tightly in his hands. “What’s that?”
