Chapter 32

“Sorry about that,” Benjamin apologized while pointing at the entryway with the white cloth over it. “More souls than usual tonight.”

“Not an everyday occurrence, I presume?”

“No,” Benjamin replied. “Not even weekly or monthly.”

“Annually?”

“Nope. It can happen out of the blue, but it’s rare. People die every day, but it’s not as if they all refuse to cross over. Only some of them.”

Eric nodded. “You’re doing something nice for all of those souls, though. That’s a wonderful thing.”

“I guess, but enough about me for now. Tell me about your day.”

Eric summarized his busy day at the restaurant, talking to Benjamin about the celebrities that had visited his restaurant and the resulting commotion, before his desire to know more about the supernatural world got the best of him. “My routine at work is rather boring, to be honest. I’m more intrigued by the occurrences at your diner, and I have so many questions for you.”

Benjamin laughed. “You had told me that earlier. Shoot.”
