Chapter 38

He was brought back to the present moment much later when he heard that familiar, extended single beeping sound from one of the machines that was hooked on to David’s body. David was dead now. Mere seconds later, doctors and nurses were rushing in to the hospital room. David’s parents and sisters were there, as well. The medical professionals were helpless, though. Eric watched as they relayed the news to David’s family. David’s family members cried. His mother even fainted. Eric felt bad for them, but a part of him was more sympathetic toward Benjamin.

“Who are you?”

Eric glanced to his right. David’s soul was standing a few inches away from him.

“I’m Eric,” Eric introduced himself before pointing at Benjamin. “And this is—”

“I’m Benjamin,” Benjamin interrupted as he moved away from Eric. “I’m here to pick you up.”

“Pick me up?” David repeated. “Where to?”

“Hell,” Benjamin replied. “You’re dead. It’s time to leave.”
