Chapter 13

Troy couldn’t help himself, he just had to comfort Beck. It was like something programmed into him. He pulled a startled Beck into his arms. “I’m so sorry.”

“I know it’s not easy for you, I should cut you some slack.”

“Huh?” Then Troy realized Beck was probably thinking Troy was apologizing for what he’d said outside the urgent care unit. “It’s not that, well, it is, but…”

It was Beck’s turn to say “Huh?”

Troy realized he had to come clean. He explained about being able to briefly peek into the mind of Virginia, the woman from the CSA and why he’d just done the same to Beck. “It was only for a few seconds, not that that’s an excuse,” he was at pains to point out.

Beck stiffened, but Troy held him tighter.

“I know it was wrong, doing it without your permission, and I promise I won’t do it again. Hell, I don’t know what I’m doing with these powers half the fucking time.”

“Okay, I think,” Beck said quietly, still stiff in Troy’s arms.
