Lizzie nodded. “That was an excuse you could cling to.”

“What?”

Lizzie’s hand tightened on Troy’s. “It’s fair to say, you’ve never been totally comfortable around girls. God knows, so many of my friends have thrown themselves at you and you haven’t even noticed.”

“They have?”

Lizzie nodded. “It was when one of them, Jilly, asked me if you were gay that made me think.”

“I’m not—”

“Shut up,” Lizzie said, cutting Troy off. “You don’t even remember Jilly, do you?”

Troy hesitated before shaking his head.

“Anyway, I didn’t believe what Jilly said at first, but the more I watched you and those around you, I began to wonder. Then, when you were given the chance to become a tuohygan, I did some research. God, the CSA keeps its secrets pretty close to its chest.” She shook her head. “Never mind. All tuohygans are gay.”

“But.” Troy tried again and was shushed by his sister.
