Chapter 28

“Shame you can’t fly when you want,” Adam said, “‘cause I’d have liked to, uh, go for a fly around.”

“It can be pretty scary until you get used to it,” Beck told him.

Adam puffed out his chest. “I don’t scare easily.”

Troy wanted to do something nice for his friend. “I think I might have a bit left in the tanks.” He thumped his biceps and got to his feet. “Come on, let’s go for a quick fly around the neighborhood.”

“Yes!” Adam pumped a fist and got to his feet.

“If you’re staying tonight I’ll need a gallon of milk from the store,” Beck told Troy as he headed out the kitchen door.

Troy raised a hand. “Okay.”

When they stepped out onto the front stoop, Troy spotted Adam’s convertible parked at the curb. He had no idea how he’d missed seeing it on his way in. The thing was bright red.
