“Well, uh, my degree’s in sports science, so I figured I’d get a coaching gig or something.”

“You wouldn’t be a tuohygan full time?”

Troy shrugged. “No pay in it.”

“You sure? Have you asked?”

Truth was, no, he hadn’t.

“They pay sotans, so I can’t see why they wouldn’t pay tuohygans, too.”

“Do they? Pay sotans I mean?” Troy felt all kinds of a fool for not knowing that. At eighteen he’d been too focused on getting his cape to really consider what all else he’d get. “Maybe I should call Scott tomorrow.”

“Uh huh.” Beck kissed Troy on the lips then cupped his face. “But you won’t qualify for anything until you and I are bonded. So, how about, once you graduate, you and me tie the tuohygan knot?”

Although he’d been expecting Beck to say something along those lines, it still came as something of a shock.

“Waiting until, say, June will give us time to prepare, get our heads around the idea and—”
