“Good, that’s decided then.” She’d nodded in satisfaction.

“Mom!” Troy had tried to interject, but his mother hadn’t been listening.

“I know you can’t exactly be matron of honor, although you’ll be the mother of one of the grooms,” Beck had said, and Troy’s mom had stopped talking to listen. “Although I’ll invite my parents, I know they won’t come, so it’d mean a lot to me if you’d walk me down the aisle.”

That had rendered Troy’s mom speechless. If Troy hadn’t loved Beck before that moment, he sure did after that. And judging by how tightly his mom had hugged Beck, she loved him, too.

The senior councilman clearing his throat brought Troy back to the present. “Are you both ready to proceed?”

Troy swallowed. Was he ready? Despite having had several months to get used to the idea of marriage and taking on his tuohygan responsibilities, Troy still wasn’t totally sure if he was good enough or strong enough to be what everyone expected of him.
