Chapter 56

Troy made to rise, but Beck put a hand on his shoulder.

“Were you thinking of curing her arthritic knees?” Beck asked.

“Uh, yeah. Why?”

“I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to use your powers to cure someone.”

Troy didn’t understand. “It’s what I do.”

“No, not really. You’re supposed to rescue people; help them.”

“Isn’t curing illness helping them?” He held up his hands. “If I’ve been given that power, shouldn’t I use it?”

“If you do use it, then everyone will come to you to cure all sorts of things, serious and not so serious. You won’t have time or energy to do anything else. And, too, you don’t know if you can cure internal injuries. You’re not a doctor. You might end up doing more harm than good.”

Troy didn’t like what Beck said, but had to concede he made a lot of sense. “Fuck, why does this have to be so complicated?”

Beck kissed him. “You don’t have to have all the answers right now. You’ve only had your full powers for a couple of weeks.”
