Troy was walking the streets, pressing the flesh and generally being visible to the public—he believed his visible presence in the community helped people to feel safer—when he felt a mild air of unease come through his mental link with Beck. There was little point in trying to send Beck a message; it didn’t work over distances. Fearing Beck had gone into an early labor or something, he reached for his cell but it rang just as the face ID opened the screen.

“Babe?” Troy said, trying to keep the slight note of panic out of his voice.

“Dr. Hanssen just called.” Beck wasn’t doing a good job of keeping the panic out of his voice.

“And?” Troy’s heart rate picked up.

“She wants to see us this afternoon.”

“Did she say why?” Troy mentally ran through the last round of tests Beck had undergone. Everything had come back normal so…

“She said she’d found something out about omega pregnancy and wanted to discuss it with us.”

“Okay.” Was that good or bad news? “What time?”
