Troy immediately started scanning. The baby had indeed moved, which wasn’t uncommon. However, Troy was surprised when he tuned into his son’s emotions. “Hell, he wants out.”

“Huh?” Beck said. “It isn’t time.”

“He thinks it is.” Troy lowered the recliner’s footrest. “You stay there, I’ll get your bag.”

“Troy, I don’t think…Ouch!” Beck clutched at his belly. “Oh shit! I don’t like this!”

Troy thought he’d be an emotional mess when this moment arrived, but he surprised himself at how calm he was. He knew their baby was healthy, wasn’t distressed, just wanted to be born.

“I’ll call the hospital,” Beck said, reaching for his cell.
