“Okay, here we have a mini cheesecake.” Jian held out a tray for him.
Victor picked one and bit into it. Sweetness exploded on his tongue. “Mm, raspberry.”
“Yes. Do you like it?” Jian’s eyes sparkled.
“It’s delicious.”
Jian bent and gave him a quick kiss before reaching for another tray. “These are white chocolate lemon truffles.”
Victor popped one into his mouth and grimaced. “They’re good, but maybe a little too sweet.”
Jian frowned. “You always think white chocolate is too sweet.”
Victor nodded. He wasn’t a fan of white chocolate. “True.”
“But maybe someone else will like them? You can take them to work and ask.” He put away the tray.
“Why are you doing this?”
“What do you mean?” He reached for another tray. “These are mini raspberry tarts.”
“Jian?” He took a tart but didn’t put it in his mouth. “Why the desserts?”
“I wanted to surprise you.”
Victor smiled. “You did, and it’s lovely, but I can’t help but detect a slightly frantic state of mind.”
