Chapter 63

Felicia opened the refrigerator. “Eggs? Scrambled, fried, poached? An omelet maybe with lots of ham, tomato, and cheese?”

“The omelet for me, please. I can help,” Lyle told her.

She took him at his word, setting him to dicing slices of ham and cutting up the tomatoes. Soon, there were three large omelets cooking in two pans. Warner set the table, poured juice, and started the coffee maker.

It’s all so homey, the way it was when I was a kid. The only difference is now I’m with my real parents. That last thought wasn’t fair and he knew it. Mom and Dad were my real parents, too, even though I was adopted.

“Did Mom and Dad know?”

His father apparently figured out what he meant because he nodded. “They are old, very trusted friends. Even though they have no magical abilities, they were well aware that your mother and I do. When we told them why we needed them to adopt you, they didn’t hesitate for a second.”

Lyle smiled. “That sounds like them.”
