“The whole restaurant bit was one big lie, right? Saying you had to work double shifts was to cover your coming here to tell my father what was going on.”

“Command performances.” Damien flashed a small grin. “He’s good at that.”

“I should have figured something was off. It was all too good to be true. How you were always around, showing up at the shop the nights we had to work late for the costume fittings.” Lyle’s frown eased slightly. “You had to be with me to protect me from Orsino and Ilaria, I understand that, but did you have play on my emotions to do that?”
