“You promised to be nice,” Jessie reprimanded him, sounding tired, like they already had this conversation.


“That’s me being nice.” Simon’s expression was offended at the insinuation.


Jasper looked at them with a curious expression, eager to know what promise they talked about. Jessie just shook her head.


“We barely found our two runaways so let’s not rush any arguments. I suggest we leave this obscure place and head home, maybe grab some food. We can talk peacefully then,” Jessie suggested and started motioning everyone to the exit.


“All right, all right.” Simon nodded. He got up from his armchair with an exaggerated stretch, all his bones cracking at once.


Jasper watched how easily his friends accepted him and Daniel being together, how mellow Jessie’s reaction was, how accepting Simon appeared. He tensed up, expecting them to be at least irked by his actions. Wanting to know why they weren’t, he knew there was no one better to ask than his ex-fiancé.
