“What if I don’t love him?” Jasper questioned. Daniel felt a punch in the lung, all air left him in this one moment. “What if I’m making a mistake?”


Maybe if Jasper didn’t ask those questions, Daniel would persist and run to find Liam. Maybe there was no universe in which he could resist his temptations.


“Jasper, you look exhausted, you are exhausted. It’s your wedding, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to,” Daniel said with a stern, hopefully, reassuring voice. He held Jasper’s hand so gently and stroked it affectionately, trying to lessen the sting of his words.


“Is this what you should say as my best man?” Jasper asked but his voice sounded different, less tense.


“Of course, I’m your best man, here to help you do what’s best for you,” Daniel said, quieting his conscience because at this moment he truly believed this was his main motivation.


“You don’t think Liam is the best for me?”
