“Milo.” Liam grabbed his attention. “I’m really happy you’re here.”
“I missed you,” Milo blurted out.
Liam laughed out loud. “It’s been less than a day.” There were actual tears in his eyes from laughing so hard.
Milo felt embarrassed by the reaction.
“Doesn’t mean I didn’t miss you,” he retorted, but he knew it sounded weak. He was weak. At least the laughter stopped. He felt arms wrapping themselves around him in a tight, warm hug
“I don’t know what happened or why you’re here, but our goodbye made me realize you should stay by my side,” Liam whispered. His words and a hug were soft, gentle, in a way that a mother soothed her children.
Milo realized he didn’t mind. His body gave in and he hugged back, just as tightly. It didn’t feel forced or like he was going back to a lover. It was warm and safe and familiar.
It felt like coming home.
