“It’s getting better, I think. Jasper’s busy with work, the whole promotion, and all. Milo’s busy looking for a job. I try to keep the moods up but I’m busy too nowadays. My boss is still pissed I disappeared like that, gotta work extra hard. Makes me wanna quit,” Liam said. It was comfortable to talk with Simon, it always was. Many people didn’t expect him to be such an attentive listener, assuming that a gym trainer had a protein shake in place of a brain.


“You guys getting along?” Simon asked, reading Liam as well as he always did, a result of years of friendship.


“That’s…I can’t tell what’s happening right now,” Liam confessed, between one bite and the other. “It’s just so wrong to let them interact like that.”
