Chapter 35

Jaecar grinned. “I was right here.”

“No, I didn’t see you.”

Jaecar took a step back into the forest, melting in despite being in human form. His black clothes and hair became one with the shadows. Fascinating. He moved toward him again and Eli held out the phone. “Elora wants a word.”

He turned to walk back into the house and was surprised when Jaecar followed him. He’d assumed he’d want some privacy.

The emotional shift was instant. Jaecar went from horny and playful to the blank shark-mode he’d sensed back at the motel. “Thank you for telling me, Elora. We need to…We can’t meet up.” Jaecar looked straight into Eli’s eyes. “I can’t leave Elijah, and I’m not taking him into the city again.” Jaecar pinched the bridge of his nose. “Can you all be by your computers in an hour? We can do a video conference.” Elora must have said something since Jaecar nodded. “Great. I’ll talk to Elijah, you contact Ric.”
