“You can go.”

“What?” Kol frowned at him.

“It’s what it was, right?” Elijah rubbed his chest. “You want to be there.”

Lying would be stupid. “I do, but you’re more important.”

“Why?”

Kol chuckled. “You’re my mate.”

Eli shook his head. “I can’t…handle the mate thing right now.”

Hurt sliced through Kol’s chest, and Elijah winced. Kol took a sip of coffee, trying to distract himself from the rejection. Elijah would grow used to him once he realized Kol would never hurt him.

“We should go to the station.”

Kol stared at him, hurt again when Elijah didn’t want to be around him. He’d sooner endure emotional overload from everyone in the department than be alone with Kol? “Okay.” 15

Eli wanted to throw up. Going into the city was the last thing he wanted, but being around Jaecar was too intense. He didn’t know how to deal with it, and he wanted to see Elora.
