Chapter 52

“We’re going to check on Elijah and Elora. I have my phone.” He pointed at his pocket and met Ric’s gaze. “Call as soon as you hear anything.”

Ric frowned and looked around the office. “Am I the only one here?” Kol nodded, well aware of Elora usually being the one they left behind and that Ric most likely wasn’t pleased with the shift.

With a snarl, Kol took in Frank’s words. The old leopard was angry, but he kept his calm. “It was right here, and now it’s gone. I can scent both Elijah and Elora, but there’s someone else too.”

Kol walked a few steps in various directions, breathing in deep and trying to sort out the scents. There was a third. He hadn’t arrived at the same time as Elijah and Elora, or he’d at least not walked the same path as they had. “Do you recognize the scent?”

Both Frank and Leo shook their heads, and Kol flashed teeth. He threw his jacket on the sandy ground, kicked off his shoes, pulled off his T-shirt, and unbuttoned his jeans.
