Chapter 15

“Shit. Sorry.”

“Cut. Let’s take it back.”

Ethan, knocked out of character in an instant, stood up and returned to his mark. Inside, he kicked himself—it had been the fifth screw up of the scene alone. Ethan couldn’t remember a time when he’d been so distracted before. He went through the motions just fine, but his head buzzed relentlessly. Deborah’s words circled him like vultures, waiting to pick him apart. Offhand, he glanced to his left. As always, Finn sat, watching with child-like intent. When their eyes connected, Finn put on a huge smile. Ethan forced a tiny one before turning away.

That day at lunch, Ethan kept Deborah’s warning to himself. Too many people milled around for them to have such a conversation. Prying ears were his worst enemy at this point.
