Chapter 66

“Oscar? Here, kitty, kitty.” Oscar, he soon discovered, hadn’t left his cozy spot on the couch. Ethan huffed and scratched behind his ears. “Ungrateful beast. You’ll run to Finn if he just walks in the door.” Oscar purred at the scratches, and readjusted himself on his back. His paws curled up above him.

Ethan didn’t do much that evening. The set had gone dark early, so there was still time to waste before bed. He watched some television, made himself a dinner, and even vacuumed the carpet in the living room. By the time he’d finished, it was only ten o’clock, and he wasn’t the least bit tired. But, he decided to call it a night and set to brushing his teeth. He stood silently in the bathroom and brushed. In the mirror, he caught sight of his empty bed.
