“Yes sir!” said Frank, pocketing the cash. He pushed the envelope into Travis’s arms with a snarl. “You get this upstairs and into Alabama’s box before I have a mind to dock your pay.” Travis glanced at Linus, who watched with great amusement. Turning sharply, he scuttled upstairs with Linus’s parcel, red in the face from the whole fiasco. Frank shook his head. “Sorry again, Linus. The boy’s brand new around here. He’ll learn.”

“No harm done. Now.” He gestured to Violet, as if to introduce her. “My friend here needs to send something herself.”

“Yes, ma’am,” said Frank, noticing Violet for the first time. “And where will yours be off to, miss?”

“Redrock.” Violet dug into her front pocket and pulled the letter she penned for her family the night before. “I can address it for you.”

“Could you please?”
