“Big place,” Mei grunted. Her brows were knit in calculation. “Might take us a day or two to find this T. Lawrence.”
Linus sighed. “S’pose we could try and blend in, so long as the townsfolk don’t mind a bit of color.” Linus perked. “Why don’t we have Rory—?” His words died the minute he said them. Swearing beneath his breath, he returned his gaze to the horizon. “Sorry.” Linus was met with silence.
“I can go.” The others turned to Violet, and she continued. “Out of the bunch, I’ll blend in the most. People won’t think twice about a white woman asking questions.”
Mei glanced along the land behind them. “We’ll set up camp just there. You know what information we need?” Violet nodded. “Don’t take too long. And Violet?” She took Violet’s hand firmly. “If you feel in danger, even in the slightest, you don’t hesitate to come back, you hear me?”
