Chapter 19

“Mr. Valencia,” the foreman of the lighting crew said, coming over to them, “we’re finished. The basement has decent lights now, too.”

“Good. Thank you for everything. If you have the bill with you, I’ll pay it now.”

The man did, and after they’d gone over it together and Lou checked out their work, he wrote out a check and the crew left.

“Ready to go shopping?” Lou asked Rory.

“No. But needs must, as they say.”

“One more day until the opening.” Lou looked around the gallery at what they’d accomplished. There were still a few blank spaces on one wall, with paintings Gideon had loaned them leaning against it, waiting to be hung.

“And pray that all this was worth it,” Rory replied, pacing nervously.

“Hey, where’s the man who’s always in total control?”

Rory stopped in front of him. “That would be you, not me.”

“I doubt that. Not after all the time you’ve worked with Gideon. I’d be willing to bet you’re very good at what you do for him.”
