Chapter 32

“He looks lonely,” Rory said. “They should let him inside.”

“That could be…interesting but catastrophic,” Lou retorted with a laugh.

“No kidding.”

A few minutes later they were at the ice rink. Much to Lou’s relief, there were lots of people skating. He chuckled when he saw a man desperately hanging onto the woman he was with, trying to stay upright. At least if I make a fool of myself, I won’t be the only one.

After he and Rory rented skates at the kiosk and put them on, they took their first steps onto the ice. Lou was instantly back in his childhood, when he and his friends would go to the frozen lake in a park not too far from his house. They weren’t supposed to skate there, but it didn’t stop them.

“I can do this,” Lou said, slowly taking off with Rory right beside him. Soon, much to his surprise, he was enjoying himself. A sideways glance told Lou that Rory was as well. They were both still vertical and hadn’t come close to falling on their butts.
