“Because that’d make her boyfriend, Sirch, happy. Plus, the anti-magic sentiment would continue to make her popular with some people,” Katherine interrupted.

I almost gasped. “Do you think the wolves or the officer are going to look for you?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know.”

The wind rattled against the house while we all stared at each other.

I shivered and my jaw twitched. “Let’s go back to Katherine’s house and see what happened.”

“That’s too dangerous.” Mom pulled out a bag of cookies and munched on a couple of them. It was her way of handling stressful situations. There were several boxes on hand at all times.

“I could go,” I said.

“No, not alone,” Katherine said, shaking her head. “I need to know for myself. I’ll come with you.”

Wow. I underestimated Katherine.
