“The worst part is a small part of me still loves him,” Katherine continued.
“That’s understandable.”
A thin silhouette of a person wandered out of the woods. Kyle. He was carrying a few logs and an ax. He flashed a brief smile before heading into the cabin. The echo from closing the door was held in the air for a beat before I returned my attention to Katherine.
“I should get going,” I said.
“Couldn’t you stay a little longer?” Katherine asked.
I bit my lip. “I have plans with Stefan.”
She smirked. “It’s probably for the best. Kyle wants to have an early dinner and build a fire.”
“Couldn’t he use magic?”
“Yeah. But people don’t have to use magic all the time. Besides, he doesn’t want to rub it in my face, since I don’t have magic.”
“Fair enough. Anyway, be safe and I love you so much.” I wrapped my arms around Katherine’s back, giving her a firm hug. I didn’t know when I would see her again.
