“I needed a moment alone,” I said.

“Don’t wait too long. You wouldn’t want Stefan to get bored.” Queen Vivian guzzled down some of her wine.

So much for my “truce” with Queen Vivian.

I might’ve hated the woman’s guts. But I still had to play the long game, which entailed not doing anything that would make Stefan choose having his sister in his life over our relationship. “What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked.

“Nothing. I think the wine has gone to my head.”

I cackled at her. “Then you should be careful with your drink, Your Majesty.”

“Thanks for the advice,” she said before chugging more of her drink. “Anyway, if I didn’t know any better, I would say you hate me.”

This event was an opportunity to get positive press, and one would have thought that a verbal scuffle was the last thing she would’ve wanted the press to get wind of. But no. She had to let her pride get in the way because of my feelings toward her.

She grunted. “Answer my question!”
