Chapter 77

I remained silent.

“I also came out to my family recently,” Olaf blurted. “I was confused and in denial for a long time.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say.”

He sighed. “I’d do everything differently if I could.”

Please. Talk was cheap. I stood by one of my mantras: all actions defined someone’s character. Even little actions. “Well, you can’t. Life moves on. Besides, I’m seeing someone.”

“Great. We could be friends again someday.”

There was no way I could explain Olaf to Stefan. Things were good between us, and there was no reason to ruin them, even though Olaf was back in town.

Snow flurries started falling from the sky.

Perfect. Exactly the sign I was looking for, because I couldn’t talk to Olaf any longer, not without risking further humiliation.

“So, um, yeah…” I shuffled my feet and pointed over my shoulder. “I need to go.”

“Okay then. See you around sometime.” Olaf darted down the street and was soon out of sight.
