Chapter 11

It clicked in response.

Laughing, the doctor finished her work. She turned to see Cillian and Angel. “Hello there.”

Angel climbed up onto a platform near the corner of the room and crossed his paws over each other. “I have a human nurse who is willing to help you.”

“Oh yeah? Him?” She motioned toward Cillian.

“Yes.”

“What experience does he have?”

Cillian didn’t like that they were talking about him as though he wasn’t there. He chimed in. “I was a hospice nurse for ten years.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Hospice? That’s a hell of a field. I’m surprised you didn’t burn out after a year.” Pausing to think things over, “Only humans though, right?”

“Yeah, but I’m a fast learner.”

“He actually just saved one of us from choking,” said Angel.

“Oh, that was you? I heard about that.”

He nodded. “I stuck my hand down its throat.”

“I’m glad you did. We can’t afford to lose anybody, especially not this early in the trip.”
