Cillian looked at his daughter and saw that she’d been crying. “It’s okay, sweetheart.”

“Dad,” she sniffed, “I thought you were dead!”

“I had to lead him away.”

Jack leaned his head against Cillian’s. “What about the Davidsons?”

“I couldn’t stop him.”

Henri burst into tears once more. “He’s gonna get us, too!”

“No, sweetheart, he isn’t. I’m not gonna let that happen. Me and your daddy are gonna get us out of here.”

“We can’t leave,” Jack pleaded.

Cillian pulled away slightly. “We have to. It’s not safe here. He can get through doors. All the doors. We have to make a run for it, to the escape vehicles.”

Jack shook his head. “We can’t pilot them. Only Monks can. And they’re sending in troops or something, right? Can’t we wait until then?”

“There’s no other way out of this apartment,” he said sternly. “If he breaks in, there’s nothing we can do.”

“Then how do we get off the ship?”
