Chapter 92

Instead of trying to gain some distance from Whalen, Cillian actually pulled himself closer, so that the wound on his chest could bleed directly onto the creature. He wiped at his arm and smeared the blood and waste onto each of the heads. He watched as the outer layers began to dissolve. As the nearest head tried to bite him, he grabbed it around the neck and held it until the flesh disintegrated into blood and sand.

Rapunzel gently gathered more blood from his arm. This time, the Monk deposited it on the water spider attached to Whalen’s lower back. With all its strength, Rapunzel yanked on the parasite until it partially came off. Half the body went limp. Cillian used his blood to melt away the remaining connection. Whalen collapsed onto him. It took some effort to move out from under the creature, which he deposited face down into the waste water. One of the ant-like heads still functioned, nevertheless. It gurgled and moaned weakly. Resolute, Cillian cut it off.
