Chapter 94

The moment they exited the hospital, the two of them were surrounded by reporters and soldiers. “It’s him!” shouted someone in the back.

They couldn’t move through the mass of people, cameras, and microphones, so they stopped. Cillian hoped that by talking to them, he could get them to leave him alone. He leaned in to the closest mic. “I killed the creature.”

“Tell us how you did it!”

“I bled on it.”

Though they asked a flourish of questions, he refused to say anything further.

With Rapunzel’s help, they pushed through the crowd and emerged behind it. There, he saw the military officer that aided them in getting to the hospital. She waved. “Hi, Cillian.”

“Hello—uh—I didn’t get your name.”

“You can call me Mary.”

“I need another favor.”

She clasped her hands together. “Anything for the savior of Chicago.”

That had a nice ring to it. “My family is somewhere in Milwaukee. I don’t know where, and I can’t contact them. Please help. They don’t know I’m alive.”
