Chapter 4

This was good. This was a new start, and he was ready to tackle it head-on.

Sora managed to avoid everyone until dinner time. Rather than run to Walmart, he’d ordered a bed frame and mattress online to be delivered to the house. He could sleep on the floor until then. He wasn’t picky.

Someone knocked on the door, and Lacie’s voice followed almost immediately.

“Sora, we’re ordering pizza. What do you like?”

He wasn’t particularly hungry, but upon brief reflection, he realized he hadn’t eaten all day. Probably should. Aware that yelling through the door would come off like a fourteen-year-old avoiding their parents, Sora got up and opened the door like an adult. He’d recovered enough from the activity of moving that he even mustered a smile.

“Hey,” he said.

“There you are!” Lacie said, her voice going up in excitement. “I was worried we’d scared you away already.”
