Chapter 23

The phone on his desk rang, and he straightened his collar before heading to grab it.

“Hello.” He dropped into his chair, spinning to look out the window, the smile evident in his voice.

“You haven’t been answering your cell.” It was Taylor.

“Nope.” David spun back to the desk. “It was my weekend.” The best weekend in a very long time.

“Dare I ask?” Taylor let out a huff of a breath. “No, no. Don’t tell me. “

“You sure? It’s good.”

“You’re just trying to make me jealous.” Someone started speaking to him on the other end, and Taylor took a moment to give a muffled reply before coming back to David. “I’ve got a meeting. But I’m flying in tomorrow night.”

Shit.

“Hope you’re up for a little company.”

“Of course, but—”

“I’ve gotta run. The flight’s not in until late, so don’t bother to send a car.”

“Are you coming alone?” David asked before Taylor could disconnect.

He laughed. “What do you think?”
