Then he pushed too hard and almost lost Zander completely. The protestations had been lip service, though. Zander hadn’t smelled of fear. His arousal never abated. Rowan offered the room key because he had finally figured one aspect of Zander out. The man needed to be in control, or at least, to feel like he was. It wasn’t in Rowan’s nature to concede like that, but being temporary had made it simple to play along. Zander could think whatever he wanted. As soon as they got to the room, their roles would reverse again.

Rowan deliberately kept his pace slow to give Will and Alec enough time to position themselves. At the hotel, he held the door open for Zander, which earned him a flushed smile of gratitude. He might’ve felt guilty about leading Zander on if he wasn’t convinced he was the one who’d sent the assassin to the estate.
